Digital Tool- Blooket

My aim as a teacher, is to make learning process effective, innovative, and fun. To achieve this goal, I always try to create a lesson which is interactive and more engaging for the students. One of the tools, which I frequently utilize in my lessons are “Quiz/Review games”. There are many platforms like Kahoot or Quizzez, which are loved by my students and act as a great plenary activity or review of important concept. Students enjoy such learning-games because it breaks the monotony of regular assessment task, secondly sense of competition within their classroom community motivate them to understand concept thoroughly.

Recently, I found a new platform for game-based learning, and it came out as an interesting discovery to change the face of our review time for formative assessment in the classroom. This platform is known as “Blooket”.  It is somehow function similar to other quiz games, where questions have been asked to choose from correct answers, but what make it different from them is its gamification interface in an educational environment. It brings the essence of video game into the learning space, which clearly elevates the engagement level of the students. The interesting idea of various video games being incorporated to test or revise the concepts of important topics make student happily invest their time in acquiring new knowledge.

Following video will give you a detail account on how to use the platform as a teacher and level up the motivation standard of your student in the class.

Every tool comes with pro and cons. It always a good practice to weigh advantages and disadvantages of any tool used in teaching-learning and then use that tool accordingly as per need or demand of the content. Blooket is a game changer tool for my classroom but there are some limitations as well which can be taken in account to use it in diverse context.

Limitations:

Although the basic functions of Blooket are free and anyone can easily use it for good, but one of the important features that is detailed analysis report can only be accessed if one has a paid plan. The free version only provides the information of total correct and wrong answers. However, if you need a detail account which question got wrong by the student or trend among the most wrong answer can only be available on paid accounts.

Similarly, more refined options like editing of available SETS in the library section or duplication of SET is also inaccessible with free accounts.

Audio feature for student is unavailable in basic plan as well. In case, students having low proficiency of language cannot opt for the audible questions. They need to read question carefully for understanding it in given time.

Another limitation, which can be laborious for teacher is creation of extensive set of questions. As the game mode require a minimum time limit to finish the quiz, therefore more questions should be added to avoid repetition.
